About Karen

After teaching art at secondary school level for some years, Karen trained in printmaking at Putney School of Art and Morley College, Lambeth. She has been printmaking since the late 1980's and works from her studio in Clapham, London. Karen's work is mostly landscape based, some local scenes, others from her travels.

Her etchings are easily identifiable by the strong use of colour. Three metal plates either zinc or copper are used to create colours from the palest pinks to dense dark blues. Painted lines are created using a technique called sugar lift and areas of tone use aquatint.

Karen also produces monotypes often in a larger format than the etchings. These are painted directly onto an offset litho press. The single image is printed onto the paper. The result is a bold and direct image.
